Radio Club of Mahanama College was inaugurated in 1985 with less than twenty members. It has since expanded to become the most active & innovative club in the school, with the current membership exceeding 150 students of upper grades. The radio club is indispensable to the effective functioning of other clubs & the school, in general. We are present, from the beginning to the end of any school day activity covering all areas.

Our master in charge is Mr. Hemantha Karunarathne who is also the founder of the club. Though his devotion & guidance, always ensures the efficient functioning of the club.

The weekly meeting is held on Tuesdays in which we exchange our future plans with each other & it has been a great boost up for the students. These meetings help the young members to sharpen their knowledge mainly on this subject. They also learn to work in harmony, improve organizing abilities and other skills. Necessary instructions & backings are readily given to the members for the new invention researches in the field of electronics. In addition to these, participating in workshops, seminars, competitions & exhibitions are also added advantages to the radio club members. As a benefit of pride we consider our noble & benevolent service to help the students who face stiff competition in the new millennium where the motto is "Survival of the fittest".

With a view to enhance the knowledge on modern radio technology & electronics among our brothers & sisters in outstations, our club has held many seminars at schools in remote areas. We have been able to identify & extend necessary assistance to the deserved students in under privileged areas.

The "ELECTRONI-X" exhibition, organized annually by the radio club is open for all the schools & the new inventors in the island to participate by way of presenting their exhibits. Best ten exhibits have been continuously awarded with valuable prizes to encourage their efforts. This annual event is very popular among other leading schools in Colombo and is considered in high esteem quality wise. If you or your school wish to contribute to this event, send in your e-mail regarding the exhibit to rcmc@softhome.net.

Having realised the importance of information communication we established an Amateur Radio station. We obtained the membership licence (4S7MR) from the Radio Society of Sri Lanka, & through that we had the honour of making the world's youngest Amateur Radio technologist, Faraz Samath (4S7FS).

Maintaining the Public Address system in the college, supplying sound systems for many college functions as well as for other schools, Radio Club of Mahanama College has done a tremendous job for the school & society. This also gives a great experience to the members, about the risk of handling a sound system in any event.

From the beginning, we, as a radio club, have introduced many talented people to the society in the fields of electronics, entertainment electronics & electronic media of the island.

The support we receive from our present club members, the comments we get from the principal & the backing from our staff advisor must be mentioned with gratitude.

We consider it is a great privilege that we can contribute to the field of electronics even in a small way.

If you have any comments about this web site or the radio club, please write them in our guest book.
